Reconditioning the Body Through Movement
===
Speaker: [00:00:00] There is no rest for the recovering.
I've treated many people who come to me with chronic low back pain who will say something like, I didn't do anything Well while you were staring at walls or ceilings. Your body was doing something. It was growing weaker and tighter. You see, even if you are not moving, your body is doing something.
It is conditioning itself to whatever you put it through. And it's going to get really good at it. I treated this patient a few years ago now who sat [00:01:00] and reclined on their sofa, uh, for hours each day, and it became incredibly painful to stand and walk.
After just a session or two, the patient grew used to standing and walking, and thus she no longer had pain. I didn't do anything magical here. I simply started to con condition their bodies.
Most times, especially with chronic pain, the body has a tough time adjusting to change. I
If you are resting and attempting to avoid [00:02:00] any sort of pain, you may. Unknowingly start to condition your body to do little and your body is going to get really good at doing little.
So here is what I want you to do instead. I want you to, I want you to think about all the things that you put your body through each day. And imagine where you'd like to be able to go, what you'd like to be able to do maybe five, six years from now, and ask yourself, am I currently practicing doing those things?
Am I moving toward where I want to be?
We must take an active [00:03:00] approach to getting where we need to go, even if we are recovering from a condition. Or from pain.
If you are having a tough time trying to find a way to move without causing pain, I want you to reach out to me on kinesmovement.com and consult with me.
As always, take ownership of your movement. Do more, wait less. We'll see you on the next one.
