Speaker: [00:00:00] It's not me, it's you.
Every now and then I get a patient who tells me to not give up on them. I,
and I say, oh, I would never give up on you. It's you who has given up.
I have a couple patients right now, two of them come to mind. Um, every session looks like the last because we can't get to the next level of the recovery, and that's because they're not doing what they need to do between sessions.
So when they come in and I ask, [00:01:00] have you done X, Y, Z? There's just a look on their face of disappointment and they feel that maybe they are disappointing me, where that is not the case. You see, I'm not in any pain. And what they do or don't do, won't affect me or my body like at all. Um, but there's this idea that if they don't do it, that they would disappoint me.
You are here for you. You do your exercises for you to get better. I'm simply , to give direction on how to go where you need to [00:02:00] go.
When I was in high school on the track and field team, I ran sprints and I had a coach who would give us drills and I would always try to appease my coach by going through the motion. And I would notice that kids were getting faster than me, and I would notice why.
And that was because they were doing extra drills that the coach didn't assign. Uh, they were hitting the weight room and really going for prs. I'm trying to get stronger and because I did not do those things, I, well, I, I didn't, I didn't get any faster. I didn't get any better.
I am bringing this up here because you sessions are like my [00:03:00] track meets and you need to do your homework, your exercise in order to perform. At the next level, and I want you to get there. I believe I'm giving you the tool, the tools to get there, but let's work together. My hand is always there to uplift you and pull you along, to put you forward, but you have to be willing to take that hand.
And move.
